"But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."

John 4:14

Jesus used two different words for a well.  One was settled water in a pit below the surface.  The other was a fresh bubbling brook, just below the surface of the earth. To drink from the first well required first filtering the water from its impurities while the other was fresh pure spring fed water, ready drink. With this in mind, Jesus was telling the woman at the well that if she drank from a stagnant, traditional or worldly well, it would leave her empty and sick from the putrid water of dead religion.  But if she drank from the living waters, she would taste freedom and new life. As believers we need the living water of the fresh well of the Holy Spirit continually springing up within us and flowing in our lives (John 7:38, 39).  Drink from the well that is always fresh and able to quench your thirsting soul.
